The J. J. JOHNSON BAPTIST ASSEMBLY, located in Laurel Hill, North Carolina in Scotland
County was established in 1967 resulting from a gift of land from the late Dr. and
Mrs. Joy J. Johnson to create a recreational and retreat facility for the Baptist
family in North Carolina.
The purpose of the J.J. Johnson Baptist Assembly is to provide a setting that is
Christian in its atmosphere and conducive to learning, worship, and meeting the needs
of all individuals who we serve.
It seeks to provide opportunities for everyone to learn the habits of good citizenship,
and it provides at the same time, opportunities to reach the maximum potential for
Christian fellowship and find experiences through democratic ideals.
The facility exists for the exclusive use by religious groups and/ or organizations
with similar aims regardless of ethnic origin. This site is well located and easy
to reach from all sections of North Carolina. This is a place where the summers are
warm and the nights are comfortably cool.
J.J. Johnson Baptist Assembly is a tract of land of seventy-five or more acres, much
of which is covered with a mixture of North Carolina pine, red and white oak trees.
There are several different facilities available and they include Rowan Association
Chapel, Horne Lodge, Alston Lodge, Lumber River Association Lodge, and Brown Assembly
